UV blocking film for oversize flat glass                    - added 04/06/07

For a PDF specification sheet, click here . . .

We can now apply a special film to the inside surface of any flat glass, to provide a 99% block
of damaging UV light.

UV light is responsible for ~ 40% of fading in artwork, colour pigments, etc, plus breakdown
of fibres in paper and other textiles (needlework materials etc).

This special thickness and property film has been sourced for the specific job of UV protection in
picture framing, giving a lifetime and beyond of service.

Being on the inside surface of the glass (within the package), the external glass can be cleaned for
years on end by end consumers, without damaging by scratching etc.

The film is practically indiscernible, and can be applied up to 1830mm widths x whatever length
you are game to glaze !

This film also blocks 20% heat, responsible for ~ 25% of fading, and provides safety / security
benefits in the event of breakage, holding the glass together relatively safely in the frame rebate.
(On 6mm glass the film meets Australian Federal Police bomb blast tests !)

This product is designed for use in oversize glazing, where no commercially made flat UV glass
is available in suitable size needs. It is usually applied to thicker than normal picture framing glass.

One careful consideration is with weight issues using thicker glasses (ie 3mm or 4mm glass).
You should use a good solid wider style moulding, reinforce corners or use a solid (ply or similar)
full backing screwed onto the frame, and use a very overkill 'bullet-proof' hanging system (z-bar
or heavy duty strap style d-rings on the frame side stiles for example).

UV blocking on our convex glass                             - updated 15/09/06

We are now able to coat our convex glass with a UV block, to give similar benefits that flat UV glass
gives in protection of artwork & items to be (picture) framed for display.

Click HERE for a pdf flyer for this product.

SunblokUV is the name / branding we've decided to go with, aptly describing the
benefits and overall concept to end users in an easy to understand manner.

It is possible that we will eventually also coat oversize flat glass, to
fill a need in the market that stock size sheets of UV glass
(now commercially available) do not address.

     ** Stop press 4/6/07 **

See story above regarding UV light blocking film.

It is also possible that long term we will work towards coating stock
sheet sizes that can be cut to size by our picture framing clients.

The Picture Framers Guild of SA     - added 02/10/03 (updated 01/04/04)

"A Framing Industry Initiative"            WEBSITE link

At a well attended meeting of South Australian picture framers in August 2002, a working committee was elected to progress the Picture Framers Guild of South Australia.
This industry initiative was officially launched in August 2003.

In brief, the Picture Framers Guild of South Australia aims to improve industry standards as well as raise the profile of the industry in the community.

The Guild provides a basis for framers to network amongst themselves, to
share knowledge and equipment, and to source information and out of stock items.
In addition, the Guild offers the camaraderie of a group of like minded people with social activities such as dinners and weekend seminars.

A series of General Meetings are being held in 2004.
The topics at the meetings range from understanding standards, textile framing techniques, framing with colour, & mounting techniques.
Other events include a mid-year Xmas function and a Members Interactive Workshop 'Problem sol-ved'.

If you are interested in finding out more or becoming a Member of the Picture Framers Guild of South Australia – contact Geoff Tolcher on (08) 8338 6566 or Erol Aiken on (08) 8276 9522.

Footnote - Tudor Glass has signed up as an Associate Member of the PFGSA.

We hope to be able to contribute and share, assist where we can to promote the guild benefits to our other framing customers, and to promote the aims of the guild in general wherever possible.
